I-18 - Caring for vulnerable populations: What you can do to support LGBTQ+ youth
According to the National Alliance on Mental Illness, LGBTQ+ individuals are almost 3 times more likely than their cisgender, heterosexual counterparts to experience a mental health condition. While acceptance of LGBTQ+ individuals has increased within the medical profession and society as a whole, many LGBTQ+ patients still encounter stigmatization, discrimination, and violence on the basis of their sexual orientation and/or gender identity. Join the AMA Medical Student Section to learn what you can do to improve the mental health of LGBTQ+ youth. If you have any questions, please contact us at 800-621-8335. This session has been planned and implemented by the AMA’s Medical Student Section. Please contact Keith Voogd at firstname.lastname@example.org if you have any questions.
