Objectives
At the end of this activity, physicians should be able to:

  1. Assess the legal risks attendant to physicians' participation on a state board of medicine, should they hold or apply for such a position. 
  2. Formulate how the state action doctrine exception to the federal antitrust laws can impact the effective operation of state created and over-sighted professional licensure boards.
  3. Recognize how medical licensure boards can affect the professional scope of practice of physicians and other health care professionals.

Receiving Your CME Credits
In order to receive AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™, you must complete the evaluation. Participants can claim credit until July 19, 2014.

Target Audience

This activity is designed for physicians who actively seek to advance the interests of the medical profession through participation in AMA policy making activities, as well as other physicians who serve on or may consider serving on medical licensure boards.

Physicians should be aware of the legal risks they take before they agree to serve on medical licensure boards. Otherwise, their performance of what they may think is a public service might lead to their inadvertent bankruptcy and/or imprisonment.

The American Medical Association is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education to provide continuing medical education credit for physicians.
