Health Economics: Health Care Trends
Health care spending as a share of the gross domestic product has remained stable from 2009 through 2011, which means that growth in all three years has occurred at the slowest rates ever recorded in the 52-year history of the National Health Expenditures Accounts. Health economics: Health care trends addresses the most important health economics trends affecting patients, physicians and payers today and those that are expected to have a significant impact in the future. This report by the AMA’s Council on Long Range Planning and Development analyzes data on health spending, access to care, the health insurance market, pharmaceutical expenditure growth and drug shortages to formulate predicted impacts of these trends for patients, physicians and payers.
