Physician Employment Agreements (AMA Models)
Authors of the newly developed AMA Annotated Physician Employment Agreement will discuss issues that physicians considering employment or currently employed by organizations should become familiar with. This will include a review of important contract provisions and their potential impact on their relationship with the employing organization and their professional career. Objectives

At the end of this activity, physicians should be able to:

  1. Identify the issues physicians may face when considering employment or are facing as current employees of organizations.
  2. Review important contract provisions and their potential impact on physicians.
  3. Discuss sample contract provisions that are relevant to employed physicians. 

Target Audience
This activity is designed for medical staff leaders (Chief of Staffs, Medical Staff Presidents, Medical Directors and Medical Staff members), medical staff service professionals and medical staff legal counsel.  

Statement of Need
There is a need to provide education to physicians on physician employment agreements, particularly on the contract provisions and their potential impact on their relationships with the employing organization and their professional career. Further an explanation of the issues that physicians will deal with when considering employment or if they are already currently employed by an organization is needed.

Statement of Competency
This activity is designed to address the following ABMS/ACGME competencies: interpersonal and communication skills; professionalism and systems-based practice.

The American Medical Association is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education to provide continuing medical education for physicians.
