Target Audience This activity is designed for physicians and representatives of state medical associations and national medical specialty societies. Statement of Need On February 1, 2013, the federal agency responsible for administering the Physicians Payment Sunshine Act (Sunshine Act) provision of the Affordable Care Act issued final implementing regulations. The regulations provide that manufacturers of drugs, medical devices, and medical supplies that participate in Federal health care programs must begin reporting on their financial interactions with physicians beginning August 1st of this year. The majority of this information will be posted on a public website managed by the federal government. The overwhelming majority of physicians are not familiar with the major provisions of the Sunshine Act. Most physicians are not prepared for the eventual public disclosure of the financial information that industry is tracking and reporting. This webinar will provide a basic overview of the the financial interactions and ownership interests that will be reported, the excluded financial interactions, and steps that physicians can take between now and August 1, 2013, to prepare for the eventual public disclosure. Finally, it will outline the resources, tools, and steps that physicians should consider in order to ensure physicians are able to challenge inaccurate, false, or misleading reports successfully before information is publicly posted.
