Understanding & Implementing New AMA Ethics Policy on Physician Stewardship of Health Care Resources
This online, self-paced activity is intended to familiarize participants with the requirements of ethics policy in Opinion E-9.0652, Physician Stewardship of Health Care Resources, of the Council on Ethical and Judicial Affairs (CEJA), promulgated in November 2012. The AMA Code of Medical Ethics, comprised of the Principles of Medical Ethics and Opinions of CEJA sets standards of professional conduct that all AMA members are expected to uphold. Physicians who fail to adhere to the standards set out in the Code are subject to disciplinary review of their fitness for membership by CEJA. In addition, state medical boards and courts across the country draw on the Code in disciplinary and legal proceedings. This activity will examine the standards set in E-9.0652 and identify resources to help physicians appropriately implement professional ethical obligations to be prudent stewards of health care resources in providing high value, cost-conscious care. Should you have technical questions, please contact the AMA Unified Service Center at 1-800-621-8335.
