Target Audience This activity is designed for all AMA members, including medical students, residents and fellows, practicing physicians, health care administrators, utilization managers, and non-physician clinical professionals. It is also appropriate for any physician who plays a role in licensing, credentialing, disciplining, or educating physicians. Any physician or non-physician who is involved with the discharge of patients should be particularly interested.
Statement of Need There is a need to educate physicians about their ethical responsibilities as stewards of health care resources generally and about the requirements of the new AMA ethics policy specifically. Failure to adhere to fulfill these responsibilities may jeopardize the interests of both individual patients and the community. Moreover, failure to adhere newly established standards may result in disciplinary action.
