Engaging Members of the Medical Staff to Measure and Improve Quality
Presented by the Organized Medical Staff Section (OMSS) of the American Medical Association. Dr. Griffin will review the multiple methodologies utilized by Memorial Hermann and their 3500 member IPA to engage members of the medical staff to measure and improve quality throughout the 11 hospital system. He will review Memorial Hermann’s measurement methodologies and successful incentive alignments utilized to produce measureable improvements in staff participation and engagement around quality initiatives. He will discuss ongoing programs being used within the IPA to support medical staff engagement in targeted specialties. Objectives
At the end of this activity, physicians should be able to:
1. Review quality measurement methodologies and tools used by Memorial Hermann.
2. Describe a successful framework for engaging medical staff around quality initiatives through an IPA.
3. Apply strategy improvements in quality achieved using this methodology.
4. Explain how this methodology has improved physician alignment with the system goals.

Target Audience
This activity is designed for medical staff leaders (Chief of Staffs, Medical Staff Presidents, Medical Directors and Medical Staff members), medical staff service professionals and medical staff legal counsel.

Statement of Need
There is a need to provide education on engaging members of the medical staff to measure and improve quality in order to identify the organizational factors that hinder engagement of physicians and to provide initiatives to increase their engagement.

Statement of Competency
This activity is designed to address the ABMS/ACGME competency quality improvement.

Accreditation Statement
The American Medical Association is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education to provide continuing medical education credit for physicians.
